Chicago Inno Covers PeerRealty's Joint Acquisition of Tycoon Real Estate

Chicago tech news site Chicago Inno recently covered PeerRealty's joint acquisition (along with Patch of Land, American Homeowner Preservation, CrowdFranchise, and EquityRoots) of Tycoon Real Estate. PeerRealty CEO Jordan Fishfeld told Chicago Inno that "After the Tycoon episode [on Shark Tank], there was a lot of talk in the industry about how we can get the general population to understand that diversification through online investing is not dangerous; it's a really good thing." PeerRealty One of Five Crowdfunding Platforms to Acquire Tycoon Real Estate

PeerRealty, along with fellow crowdfunding platforms Patch of Land, American Homeowner Preservation, CrowdFranchise, and EquityRoots, announced today the joint acqusition of Tycoon Real Estate, a California-based real estate crowdfunding platform. Tycoon gained national attention earlier this year when CEO Aaron McDaniel showcased the company on ABC's Shark Tank. While the sharks were not impressed, with Mark Cuban opining that Tycoon is “a rip off name," PeerRealty CEO Jordan Fishfeld says that the acquisition gives these leading crowdfunding platforms a unique opportunity to “change the Tycoon portal into an educational platform to show the world why the Sharks were wrong about the industry.” Back in February, Jordan penned an article on the PeerRealty blog discussing the Shark Tank episode in more detail. PeerRealty CEO Jordan Fishfeld recently spoke to Crain's Chicago Business to discuss how Chicago-area real estate developers are turning to crowdfunding to raise capital. Jordan noted of crowdfunding investment transparency that “[b]ecause of the very public nature of capital-raising on the Internet, there's much more accountability than if I come into your house and make some promises while I'm talking to you” The article also discussed the recent adoption of Title III of the JOBS Act as well as the Illinois intrastate crowdfunding legislation. SEC Votes to Approve Title III of the JOBS Act

The Securities and Exchange Commission has voted to adopt rules fully implementing Title III of the JOBS Act. These long-awaited rules make up the final section of the 2012 JOBS Act that had yet to be implemented, and will allow non-accredited, retail investors to invest in equity crowdfunding offerings. Jordan Fishfeld Interviewed on WGN Radio's Tomorrow's Business Today

PeerRealty CEO Jordan Fishfeld appeared on WGN Radio's Tomorrow's Business Today show to discuss real estate crowdfunding. Jordan was interviewed in-studio by host Scott Kitun and explained how crowdfunding is changing the nature of real estate investing by opening up larger-scale investment opportunities to the general public. Other topics discussed included the impact of the 1871 Chicago startup incubator on the city's tech scene and the then-pending Title III crowdfunding rules that will open up crowdinvesting to non-accredited investors. PeerRealty CEO Jordan Fishfeld discussed how PeerRealty has already raised nearly $7 million for five equity offerings, and explained how institutional capital is taking increasing interest in crowdfunding, as evidenced by PeerRealty's Ameritus Real Estate Fund offering. Illinois Equity Crowdfunding Bill Signed by Gov. Rauner
July 29, 2015
Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner signed the proposed intrastate equity crowdfunding legislation into law today. The bill takes effect on January 1, 2016, and will allow Illinois companies to take investments from Illinois non-accredited investors through crowdfunding platforms under certain circumstances. The bill had previously been passed unanimously in both the Illinois Senate and the Illinois House of Representatives. PeerRealty CEO Jordan Fishfeld wrote about the bill in more detail in two prior blog posts on our site. AI Markets Discusses PeerRealty's CFX Network

Accredited Investor Markets (AI Markets) discussed PeerRealty's efforts to create a secondary market for crowdfunding assets with its CFX Network in a recent article. Author David Freedman noted that crowdfunded equity investments are currently illiquid, but predicted that a secondary market will soon emerge. The article discussed the CFX Network, which will provide a network for secondary market transfers of private securities in alternative asset classes.
